A Cold and Restrictive Status Effect in Combat
Overview of the Frostbite Status Effect
Frostbite is a powerful tactical status effect that punishes aggressive opponents. When a target is afflicted with Frostbite, they are placed under a temporary debuff. If the affected target attempts to deal direct damage to you while the effect is active, they trigger a secondary condition that traps them under a Frozen lock. This makes Frostbite an exceptional defensive and control tool, forcing enemies to choose between halting their offensive pressure or suffering a complete loss of action.
Mechanics and Trigger Conditions
Unlike standard damage-over-time effects, Frostbite acts as a reactive trap. The duration of the initial Frostbite debuff, as well as the resulting Frozen lock, depends entirely on the specific jutsu used to apply it.
- Application: The user strikes the target to apply the Frostbite debuff.
- Trigger: If the target deals direct damage to the caster during the debuff's duration, they are immediately frozen.
- Frozen Lock: Once triggered, the target is placed under a Frozen state, preventing them from taking actions for a set number of turns.
Because debuffs do not stack in Tenno combat, applying multiple instances of Frostbite will not increase its potency, though the duration and exact values depend on the skill that applies the effect.
Skills That Apply Frostbite
Frostbite is primarily associated with specialized Genjutsu techniques, particularly those released during seasonal events. Notable skills that utilize this mechanic include:
Kinjutsu: Glacial Arrow
Released as part of the Christmas 2024 Limited Edition, this skill strikes the target with Frostbite lasting for 3 turns. If the target deals direct damage to the caster during this window, they are trapped under a 3-turn Frozen lock. This skill requires 302 CP to cast and has a 12-second cooldown.
Kinjutsu: Advanced Glacial Arrow
An upgraded Christmas 2024 Limited Edition variant that inflicts a more potent version of the debuff. It strikes the target with Frostbite lasting for 4 turns. If the target deals direct damage to the caster during this time, they are trapped under a 4-turn Frozen lock. This advanced technique requires 312 CP to cast and has a 12-second cooldown.
Strategic Application in Combat
In high-stakes encounters, such as Rumble PvP, managing your opponent's offensive options is key to victory. Frostbite serves as an excellent deterrent against high-damage builds. By threatening a multi-turn Frozen lock, players can safely buy time to recover chakra or set up their next offensive rotation. It is particularly effective when timed right before an opponent's major cooldowns are ready, forcing them to waste valuable turns or risk being completely immobilized.
